Jon Tweed finished strongly to win the Amateur Division at the Essex Open last weekend. This was his 4th victory this year and gives hin an unassailable lead on the BDGA Tour, so he will be crowned the Amateur Champion. Tweedy has decided to now move up to the Open division for the next event, which is the Quarry Park Open on 15-16th September. Fellow Quarry Park player Mark Davis led Tweedy by one shot going into the final but let some shots slip and finished third.
In the Open division Neil "Bruce" Webber and Derek Robins were in close contention ater 2 rounds, but couldn't keep up with Croydon's Jester Wilson on the final day. Neil finished 3rd and Derek slipped to 5th.
In the Intermediate Amateur Division (for players with a rating of under 850) there is often a player who is improving quickly or has not established rating, who plays well above rating cap, and such was the case with local lad Clive, who won by something like 20 shots. Quarry Park's Phil Sumner played some good golf to make the final and finished fifth.
