What an amazing summer we had at Quarry Park. The great weather, and booming worldwide interest in disc golf, resulted in a record numbers of visitors to the course, in some months we had a 100% increase in rounds played!
After 23 consecutive years as UK Tour Champion I have finally relinquished my crown to Dan Ryan, but hopefully I won't be hanging up my disc golf bag for many years yet! In the QP Club, Jon Tweed is starting to snap at the heels of the title contenders and has finished 4th in the last 2 British Tour events. In his first full year of playing, Lloyd Jacques has been improving at an astounding rate, winning the Intermediate Amateur title in his last 2 tournaments.
It would be great to have more players get involved in disc golf competitions, you don't have to be serious or seriously good, it's just good fun playing against other people. The monthly handicap is a great way to get a taste of competition, there's no extra entry fee and in theory everyone has a chance of winning. Just keep an eye on the noticeboards and on the facebook group for future dates.
I have an ambitious worklist mapped out for Autumn and Winter, currently standing at 75 identified jobs, but will probably top 100 when I complete my review. There's always pruning to do, but I'll be taking out some trees to give more light in the woods and allow the oaks more space, especially where they are in competition with ash trees which may succumb to disease in the next year or two. I will be planting several trees and hundreds of bluebells. Some fences will be removed and some renewed. The OB enclosure on hole 3 will go, whilst 14 will be much reduced. Improvements are planned for the tees affected by silt and mud. Finally, I hope to progress plans for some clubhouse facilities.
