QP Open

The 2021 QP Open will be 12-13th June

27th Quarry Park Open (12-13th June) and Quarry Park Amateur Event (16th May)
The rapid growth of disc golf and demand for places in tournaments is giving tournament directors some challenges in how to allocate places. To enable as many people as possible to play an event at Quarry Park, we are prioritising higher rated players for the Open and lower rated or unrated players for the Amateur event. Putting that simple idea into a registration procedure is not so simple, so apologies for the confusion which may ensue! We won't be able to please all the people all the time.
Your Options
If you have a rating of at least 900 (800 for Women) or are registered as a Pro player, you will have priority to play in the QP Open, and will not be eligible for the Amateur event on 16th May
If you have a rating of 850 to 899 you can choose either the Amateur event on 16th May, or the 2-day Quarry Park Open, but will only be allowed to play one of them. You can indicate your preference.
If you have a rating of less than 850 (800 for Women), or no rating at all, it is unlikely that any places will be available in the QP Open. Go for the 1 day event.
Registration Phases
April 14th-18th -.Registration is open to all. Places will be allocated as follows: -
  • Quarry Park members and Women can register for either tournament in line with the “Options” listed above. Please pay immediately
  • Players with a rating of 900+ applying for the QPO will get a place, so please pay immediately.
  • For men with a rating of less than 900 who are not QP members, we will allocate places by lottery on 19th April and notify you by email. Don’t make payment until we notify you that you have a place.
April 19th – 30th Payment must be received in the QP club account, otherwise your place will be forfeited.
May 1st Any forfeited places will be reallocated to players on the waiting list.
If there should happen to be unfilled places on May 1st, we will of course accept registrations on a first come first served basis.
It may be that some tweaks are required to resolve unforeseen issues.
The Open will be a PDGA B Tier, and will probably consist of 2 rounds of 18 on Saturday, and a 21 hole round on the Sunday incorporating the 4 extra holes on the new field as well as extended versions of the woods holes (black 9 and 10) . The Amateur Event will be a PDGA C Tier, with 2 rounds of 18 holes, most likely utilising the red and blue tees. Payout ratios will be met after allowing for green fees of a maximum of £10 for the one day event and £16 for the 2 day event, plus BDGA/PDGA sanctioning fees.
May 16th           £18 entry fee (£10 for Junior Divisions) Probably 72 players
June 12-13th      £40 for Pro Divisions, £30 for Amateur Divisions, £20 Junior Divisions 84 players
Entry fees should be paid via bank transfer to 040004 77216758. This a Monzo account administered by Dom Hudson. Putting all fees through this account enables us to keep track of the money and reduces the load on the tournament director, so please don’t send money to any other account, and don’t try paying at the course.

Weekday opening is from 12:00 until sunset, except for bank holidays when it is 10am until 6pm. Weekened opening is from 10am to 6pm. Bookings can be made 7 days in advance. Disc golf has grown hugely popular, and in order to run smootly and safely, we have had to change the way we manage the flow of visitors. The booking system is an essential part of this.
The other change is to limit groups to 6 people on a hole at any time, because big groups can slow up play for all the groups behind them. Big groups also give rise to increased safety concerns if throws are made when other members of the party are in range and not paying attention. The government regulations on "group of 6" also make this a necessity at present. If you are planning a visit for 7 or more family or friends, then simply book 2 or more time slots and don't merge.
We are expecting to run the following tournaments as BDGA/PDGA sanctioned events in 2021
May 16th - Quarry Park Amateur Event (PDGA ref)
June 12-13th Quarry Park Open
September 25-26th Quarry Park Masters (to be confirmed)
October 16-17th British Open
The rapid growth of disc golf and demand for places in tournaments is giving tournament directors some challenges in how to allocate places. We won't be able to please all the people all the time. Our first event on May 16th will prioritise people with a PDGA rating of less than 850 (including those with no rating) The Quarry Park Open in June will require a rating of at least 850 in mixed divisions. The Masters event in September will be for players born in 1981 or earlier. Registration will open earlier for Quarry Park members. We may consider tiered registration or random draws in order to avoid keyboard races.
The course is currently closed for play due to the Governments covid regulatons. According to news media, the Government is expected to announce that some outdoor sports, including golf, will be allowed to open from March 29th.
The 26th Quarry Park Open is going ahead on 5th July. We have had to make quite a few changes to adjust to the social distancing requirements.
  1. It will be just a one day tournament with 2 rounds
  2. There will be a golf start with no player meeting and no awards ceremony
  3. Play will be in groups of 3
  4. Scoring will be via competitors own phones using Discgolfmetrix
  5. There will be no player ratings or BDGA/PDGA points as sanctioning is not yet available in the UK
The invitation is posted on the Quarry Park Facebook Group
Registration will be at https://discgolfmetrix.com/1322460

Welcome

Welcome to the home page for the Quarry Park Disc Golf Course. Situated on Old Milverton Lane on the edge of Leamington Spa, this is a unique facility in Britain, in that the land was purchased and landscaped specifically for disc golf.

Disc Golf is a great sport or activity for all ages and abilities, and QP has been meticulously designed to be fair to beginners and challenging to pros. We welcome everyone from family groups and tourists looking for a fun frisbee activity, to professional level players from abroad. Disc golf is great for group outings too - we have had stag parties, sports clubs, scout groups, office outings, church groups, round table etc.....

What is Disc Golf?

Disc golf is a lot of fun and is similar in concept to traditional ball golf. The object is to get a frisbee disc into a basket in as few shots as possible.
