Quarry Park Open 2022

The 2023 Quarry Park Open was held on 8-9th July

This weekend we host The Masters at Quarry Park - a tournament for the "Masters Division" restricted to those aged 40 or over during the year, i.e. born in 1978 or earlier. I haven't closed the course to casual players, but the burgeoning growth of the sport has meant that we have 50 competitors in comparison with 32 last year. It will be very busy on the course and parking will become an issue if we have many casual players in addition to the competitors. If you can defer your visit to another weekend that will ease the issue. If you visit, but are unable to find a parking space, please accept my apologies, if we run this event again next year we will advise well in advance that the course is closed to casual play. Please do not park on the verges outside the course as it is essential to retain visibility for cars leaving the site.
In other news, we have taken delivery of lots of new stock from Innova a couple of weeks ago, Latitude 64 and Dynamic Discs yesterday, with some Discraft Comets on the way too. Hole 5 is currently closed until we reinstate stream crossings and allow grass to establish in recently seeded areas.
I'm delighted to say that we just had our 100th 5-star review on Tripadvisor. Thank you to everybody who has submitted a review, and if you see any areas which you think we need to address, then do let us know. Thank you to the staff for their efforts too.

The 40th British Open took place at QP on 7-8th July and a capacity field of 90 players representing 10 countries battled it out for honours and a slice of the £1000+ prize fund. Iceland's 15 year old prodigy, Blaer Orn Asgeirsson, took top honours in the Open division. His scintillating 7 under par course record of 50 on the reconfigured black course helped him to victory over Belgium's Maxime Tanghe.
In the Womens division it was no surprise that 3-time Womens World Champion Des Reading from the USA won by a huge margin, with Finland's Katja Hiironen and Estonia's Katre Poder joining her on the podium. That's 5 nationalities mentioned so far and there was another in the MP40 division (40 and over) where Frenchman Mehdi Boukarabila took the win. I'm happy to say that the UK had a winner in the MP50 division - course owner and tournament director Derek Robins recaptured some of the form of his earlier years and was the only player in the entire field to shoot 3 sub-par rounds.
Huge thanks to Assistant TD Andy Malcolm for his hard work and dedication to serving the players. Many thanks also to disc sponsors Latitude 64 and volunteers including Andrew Douse, Mark Davis and Dan Waxman.

The course is now open from 2pm on weekdays and closes at 9.15 or sunset if earlier. During quieter periods, staff may be working on the course and not notice you arriving. Listen for the sound of a mower or strimmer or see if they have left a note on the door to say where you can find them if you need assistance.
The British Open is coming up fast, and will be the biggest disc golf event of the UK calendar with a full field of 90 players including 25 from 8 overseas countries. Spectators are very welcome for the finals on Sunday afternoon.
I'm excited to report that Des and Jay Reading are taking part. They have 3 World Mixed Doubles titles, and Des has been Womens World Champion 3 times. They will be running clinic(s) at the course prior to the tournament, and I'll be announcing the dates/times and costs soon, but do let me know if you want to sign up and I'll make sure that you are the first to know.
We have a few Fundraiser Commemorative Stamp discs on sale for £18. Only 50 made, and for the 40th British Open this is a real collectors item. On sale now in the Pro Shop.
Finally we are in the process of upgrading tee posts and signs and will be moving to a letter sequence for the Short Course, which may cause a bit of confusion while we are in transition. The course is in great shape, so come on down and play!
We have 3 tournaments planned for 2018
