The 34th British Open Championship in disc golf was won by Dan Ryan, originally from California, but now based in London. Dan started the day 4 shots behind local course pro Derek Robins, but gained 3 shots in the 3rd round on Sunday morning.
The 2012 British Open is underway, and after 2 rounds, course pro Derek Robins is leading the Open division by 4 shots from Croydon's Dan Ryan. In the Amateur division Leamington's Mark Davis is in the lead. The course is reserved for tournament play until the awards are over at around 4pm, but spectators are welcome to watch the finals which we expect to start between 1pm and 1:30pm, and should complete soon after 3pm. After more than 2 years in production, a flying disc documentary film called "The Invisible String" will have it's world premiere in Berlin on Sunday. You can see the trailer for it on youtube, and if you look at the closing credits you will see the Quarry Park logo, we are proud to support this project.
Quarry Park has just turned 18 years old this month. It's incredible how quickly the time has passed and how much the course has matured. Where there was once bare pasture there are now established trees and shrubs, with the tallest reaching over 25m, in the woodland by the river. Every year we try to enhance the course, and improve the experience for our visitors. Back in 1994, I'm sure many people thought I was crazy to sink my savings into a sport that hardly anybody had heard of, but over the last 5 or 6 years the course has become really well established with thousands of people visiting each year. I'd like to say "Thank you" to everybody who has helped and encouraged me over the years, and to all the visitors whose fees have enabled me to make the improvements each year.
